Juneteenth Celebration 2022

Under the leadership of Reverend James A. Forbes Jr., I once again have the pleasure of producing a Juneteenth Celebration at Carnegie Hall. This will be the fourth year that Rev. Forbes’ organization, Healing of the Nations Foundation, now under the stewardship of Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, will be in partnership with Carnegie. We are more than excited to be back in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman stage after being online for the past two years. Juneteenth has proven to be the highest viewed of all Carnegie’s online programs.

It gives me great joy to curate this program—to bring together incredible talent to acknowledge the historical context and significance of Juneteenth and to lift up those who have forged a path to thrive. Our two powerhouse honorees are Sonia Sanchez and Opal Lee, who, at 87 and 94 years young, are shining exemplars of dedication, resilience and perseverance.
